He graduated in Italian literature and philosophy, member of Société des Gens de Lettres de France (SGDL) and Société Française des Intérêts des Auteurs de l’Écrit (SOFIA), he is actually the French chief at Telematic Museum of playing cards and tarot for the international group of historical research Trionfi.com:

French translator of several iconological essays for prof. Andrea Vitali, he is working together with John Mc Leod, “International Playing Card Society”, for a translation project in English about the oldest version of the Règle du Tarot à Jouer 1637 (1585 ?)
Among his publications, it is particularly interesting the work Origines et histoire du Tarot (Editions Envolée, Toulouse, France) published in 1997.
Bougearel gave an exhaustive explanation about the theory of a possible Neo-Pythagorean structure in the 78 cards in the classic tarot.
